Timing Chains
I'm about to reassemble my LS1. When I got the engine, it already had an MS3 cam and double valvsprings, but it still had what looks like the stock timing chain. I've bought a different cam, so my question is should I upgrade the timing chain or is the stock chain ok? What timing chain set do you recommend if I should change?

You can go with the stock timing gears and upgrade to the HD/LS2 timing chain. It is a little more beefy than the stock chain.
Thats what I used when I did my cam swap and it has been working flawlessly.

I wonder if that's what might be on it now. The engine only has 40K on it, and there's very little slack in the chain. I just thought it strange to see the entire valvetrain upgraded(except rockers), and still have a stock timing set. I guess I just figured the stock set was that good. :lol:

There is a pretty significant difference in the chains that you should be able to tell the difference...see the link below:

What does a new LS2 chain cost?

about $40. Thats what im running and no problems here
