I think you can fit 285s if you crank the t-bars.

Lt285/75R16 or 285/70R17 depending on you stock wheel size.. Will fit no problems, maybe a minor tbar adjustment. They might rub slightly at the rear plastic inner fender, but you can tie that back a bit and no probs etc.

I have a 2000 year of the same truck and I had 305s on it. At the time I had the t bars cranked a few more. But 285s fit just nice. 305s were cutting it really close on stock height. I think it was 305/70.

30s will go with no rub, I did 32 jacked the t bars with very lil rub, I have 305-65-17s pro comp Xtream MTs, mud grips will get u stuck faster but look good, also with my set up I found the weak links pretty fast lol

Also I did a 3in body, t keys n blocks to get 6in up. I love it not to high not to low. I have a vid on u tube of it look up bootlife 2000 silverado. http://youtu.be/uNdJPLlmABQ

im a fan of the bfg all terrain in 285's. I used to work in a custom truck shop in AL and alot of guys ran the nitto trail grappler or the mickey thompson Baja MTZ or their baja ATZ both look really good and wear well on light trucks. also im a fan of the toyo open country MT. hope this helps.
