4.8 to LQ4/LQ9 Swap with Manual Trans NV3500

Figured I’d dive into the knowledge of this forum since I’ve been lurking around the web for a while and can’t seem to come up with a definitive answer to my question: What do I need to mate a LQ4 or LQ9 LS Engine to my current NV3500 manual transmission?

The LQ4 will be a ’01-’03 engine or the LQ9 a ’02-’03, so I believe they will both have the short crank (with the LQ4 a removable spacer).

I believe my truck has the long crank (+.400”) in it now, so I will need to make that “space” up with the new engine. I’ve only seen the aftermarket GM spacer used/recommended for flex plates (autos); not flywheels…Also, maybe another way, I think I might be able to use a ’01 up LS truck flywheel with a LS car style roller pilot to make up the space? Both of these options should maintain proper starter alignment?

I’m pretty sure the ’01-up LQ4, although using a NV4500 trans, uses the same flywheel, slave, and pilot bearing as the ’01-up 4.8…I actually have researched this a bit but would like to know someone who has actually done it.

Oh yeah, my project is a 2000 Silverado Ex. Cab 4x4, 4.8 liter, 5 speed (NV3500 RPO MG5 light duty).

For a short crank motor you will need a short crank (01+) 4.8 flywheel. Pilot bearing, car/truck doesn't matter.

Let me know how this turns out. I am trying to gather parts to convert with a 5.3
