caddy tranny
by the end of the week my avalanche will be officially for sale & it should go quick, i have told a few people its geting sold & its not for sale yet and ive had people askin about it. as of now my plan is to get an escalade ext and my question is what trans do they have? if its a 60 will a performabuilt lvl 2 with a stall hold up in it with minor mods, like- cai, lt's, cat back, tune, and u get the point.
any one have any horror stories about escalades i should know about or anything i should look for? thanks.

I did/doing the exact same thing. I still have my avalanche, going up for sale shortly. Let me just say, once you get the ext, you'll forget all about the avalanche, lol.
So back to your question, the '07+ have the 6.2L and the 6L80e transmission. It's a beefed up 80e with two extra gears, to make it simple.
they're aren't any bad stories about an escalade, the trans will hold up to minor/moderate mods and the power from 6.2L is just right.

However, pre-07 will still have a 60,65,70e. Obviously all variations of the 60e. I've never heard of any major "DO NOT BUY" issues with the EXT. I'd definitely go with a 07+, just nicer trucks all around. Which goes for all the GM trucks actually.

thanks guys, the only issue is the $ for the 07 up, my wallet only allows a 05 ish, im tryin to get one straight out without a loan. i have a performabuilt trans to put in it if needed, i have no plans on putting a blower on a truck as big as my avalanche again, it was a novel idea, and fun for a while, just minor bolt ons like i said above and a set of pretty wheels, grill, halo's, led tails, and so on, i also plan on getting a faster car than i have now (gto?) to take care of my go fast needs. im not wanting to swap any more transmissions, my avalanche has burnt me out, the only reviews i could find on the ext were from morons online.

EXT and Avalanche are the same platform so they'd share any major problems. If you like an Ave you'll like an EXT
-
Yes, the transmission should hold just fine with light mods.
-
thanks again, i never really had light mods on the avalanche, it went from stock to as it sits quick like. other than trans issues i love my avalanche, just bored with it. my old ecsb has over 200k in it now and over 50k was with a teenage girl that i sold it to driving it, she put bigger tires on it and her and her boy friend beat the crap out of it on & off road constantly, it has light mods and the factory trans still in it

A 4L80 and a 6L80 have NOTHING in common. They are not related in any way. A 6L80 is more relative to an Allison than anything because of two input ratios, three or four output ratios, and clutch to clutch shifting (no bands <4L80 has two> or sprags <4L80 has at least one>). The 6L80 is stronger than a 4L80 (stock) and obviously has six forward ranges, none of which are direct (like 3rd in any other GM RWD trans other than the LCT1000).
The OP's original question is very vague as he doesn't even mention what year EXT he is looking at. There are a lot of variances for sure and any GMT800 will have a 4L60/65E.

its going to have that 60e and they suck!! i blew 2....one at 3500 miles on my 4.8....warrantied it then that one only lasted 10,000 miles till i did the 6l90 swap.....i can imagine it wont last in that big ext lol just cruise it

I blew one 60e and switched to an 80e just from seeing all the nightmares, anyways I can feel your pain from helping buddies with thiers, the 65 awd trans im running now is built to the hilt and if it breaks, all I have to pay for is parts, and the builder is a friend of mine and builds good trannies and hes local, and youre right going fast in that big of a truck takes alot of time and money, I usually try to talk guys into staying in the truck game, but for some reason I want to build a car, with an ls motor of course, maybe a fox body, but recently my uncle asked if I wanted his fierothat he never finished, thinking I could shoe horn this 5.3 in it. Good luck with what you choose to do but the caddy is def a nice truck.
