Planning a 5.3 stoker input please.

I have a lm7 5.3 in my jeep running stock as of now. Interested in the benefits of stroking this motor even tho it really boogies pushing my 3800lbs around already. Parts I've looked into so far:

Eagle or callies 4" stroker crank. $850

Wiseco 3.780 bore 4" stroker pistons rated at 10.8 CR with my stock 61cc heads. These also allow use of stock length rods. $550

Crank balancing required as well as block clearancing $?

New head gaskets possibly a lil thicker to lower CR to 10.5. Don't know if I can trust premium gas at 10.8

That's where I am at planning this build. I welcome any comments and suggestions although at this time not entirely interested in boring to create a 383. I figure to get the most potential out of this will require a proper suited cam and custom tuning. Don't know what cam would be a winner.

I think a cam swap would be much more simple, a lot cheaper and will fit your needs just fine. On the front page is a thread about 100hp on a budget. A 212/218 cam would help you keep the power down low(since it is a Jeep I assume big tires and desire for off-road), or a 220/224 with a circle D 3k stall although that is assuming again that you have a 60e which IDK.
Cam kit= $700
Tuning= $300 from NP
Stall= $375
Odds and ends= $200
With that you are rolling just about $1500 and an additional 50-100hp over stock.

If you are stuck on higher compression use 4.8 pistons or mill your heads. Both keep a much better budget.

Thanks for that info and i will def consider that as an alternative approach. Btw I have the 4l60e Mated to my stock Dana 300 T-case. Right now I have 32x11.50r15 on it and I average 19-21 mpg staying under 70. Sure do want to get rid of the torque management with a tune. Maybe not all but like 80 percent or so. Isn't that a lil too tough on clutch disks tho? About changing stalls.. This is my Daily driver and to be honest I don't know much about them n how they affect driveability and mpgs. 4.8 piston swap would get me what compression ratio?

Okay on the Torque Management it all depends on the setup. It helps being light, but the 60e is pretty weak and big tires don't help. I took out like 50% on my truck. Stock 60e's are a roll of the dice. Just call Nelson Performance and they will hook you up tuning wise. Get a corvette servo and a good size trans cooler to aid your trans.

A 3k stall from Circle D is a great daily stall and will help you out of the hole. Basically it allows your motor to get up in the RPM range where more of your power is before engaging and putting power to the wheels. With a proper tune you shouldn't lose more than 1-2mpg.

I am not sure about the compression with 4.8 pistons I do know they are flat top and will give you a bump. Maybe someone else will chime in.

For a stroker price, might as well get a 6.0 and cam it, or just build up that 5.3l

If you're doing a stroker, you'll want a new cam to let it breath. Then you'll need a cam for that big stall. You're better off getting a 6.0 and swapping it in. If you don't offroad it a TON, a Circle D 2800-3200 stall would really suit you well. You will barely notice it's there until you mash the gas.

I want low and mid torque production is why I am thinking stroker. It is quite expensive to stroke it i suppose but jus figure id work with what i already got. Ive never modded an engine before but have always wanted to. Are their any downsides to stroking one of these engines? Kerrige mentioned a 212/218 cam but what lsa is ideal and should it have much advance added to it. From what I've reasearched a cam with built in advance brings higher torque production lower in the Rpms. Is this correct?
