Getting ready to buy a truck with a 4.3 in it, I already have a 5.3 from a 2005 Avalanche. I have read up on everything and am ready to do the swap soon. Just wanted to know if I can keep my stock torque converter that is in the 4.3 truck or do I need one that came from a truck with the 5.3, also will the stock 4.3 radiator be enough to cool the truck?? Trying to keep costs down as much as possible yet still have nice reliable build.
get a flywheel from a 2000 with the spacer made on the flywheel and you will be good. they also sell the spacer by its self. i have a flywheel from a 2000 HD2500 6.0 and it has the spacer..
Spacer?? From what I had read as long as I used the transdapt plates to get the engine back where it is supposed to be the converter would bolt up to the flywheel, I was just wondering if I needed the converter from the 5.3 as well
you need the spacer with the flat LS flywheel and it will bolt to you converter. the motor mounts have nothing to do with it. lust go to the junk yard and get a flywheel for a 99 to 02 4.8 or 5.3 and you will be good. just make sure you check the flywheel to your converter. some people say you have to grind the 3 converter holes a little.
but the anwser your question no the newer converter will not work in your trans.
ok, that cleared it up, so do you think I would need to get a 1994 model V8 torque converter to be on the safe side?
I read in another post that your truck was a V6 I think, did you end up having to pull the front end apart and move the stock mounts or were you able to flip the plates and get the engine in that way?
i havent done anything yet. now that im ready to do my swap we get butt loads of rain here in TX. lol
i say stay with your converter you got or get a stall if you plan to do a cam. just get one for your year truck.
