Thinking about logs
So I'm contemplating building my own log setup. I know I could buy a kit from trick or KB or from one of the members on here, and I still may but I just want to consider the options. This is going to be a budget build since I am in college still. I finally decided to pull the trigger after that hot rod article. I have a nice miller mig and shop at my disposal and I know the basics on fabrication I would say. So say I want to build a log, what material woul I use and where can I get it from? Where is a cheap yet reputable place to buy flanges from? And what kind of cost am I looking at? I don't want to do to stainless bc of the price and idk how I would weld it. I'm pretty confident I can copy the pictures of manifolds that I have seen here but is there any helpful tips that I can use? As for the crossover I plan to just buy pre-bent pipes but idk where to find the flex fitting at. Also my roommate thinks it would be better to not build a log setup but rather mount the turbo in front of the engine with the manifolds just swapped around? Any benefit to that design over a log design? I know it's a lot of questions but I'm just wanting to maybe do this myself to save money and bc it will be fun. Any help is appreciated.

Would it be easier to turn my factory manifolds around and run a crossover from the driver side to the passenger side in front of the engine and mount the turbo in the same location as the trick and kb kits put them? Just basically running two pipes from the manifolds and merge them together and weld a T4 flange onto it from there? Sounds like it should work. Any reason why I shouldn't go that route?

We use both manifolds on some setups and they work great.
I can tell u if u build a turbo with two manifolds or two logs that merge into one at the turbo, it will flow more and make more hp on the topend. I've done it and compared them.
Also, keep in mind how far u wanna push this.
If u just want a good driver, good power and a reasonably easy kit ur gonna build on your own, the single log with the crossover feeding into the rear of it will be more than enough, but more attractive to u, it's easy, cheap and works great.

Columbia mandrel bends has decent pricing on material, but not the cheapest but I say from using many suppliers out there, they have quality steel. And there is a difference in cheap and good metal.
Those three sites will be enough to get it done!

Build what u want it to look like.
Logs gave been proven over 1100hp.
Just like flipped manifolds have proven hi hp set ups.
Flipping manifolds will need different plug wire routing and lots of heat shielding.
Flipping manifolds arec cheaper way to build twins.
Once u have your layout and done. Turbo support maybe needed.

If I go the log route what size tubing should I use for the crossover, the log and for the primaries between the flange to the log. I was thinking 2.25" crossover, 3" log and for the primaries I'm not sure. They only offer 1.5" and 2" sch 10 pipe and I was thinking somewhere in between there would be ideal. So what do y'all think? Also where can I get bent tubing big enough and thick enough for the log? I guess I just need a 90 degree and 45 degree bend, right?
