Ok i have a question. I was wanting to get a tune and i know i should get a thermostat too. I was also told i would need a thermo to max my timing out. The question is do they make one for an 04 4.8 yet, i know a while back they didnt make them for the newer trucks and that the old ones were diffrent. So if anyone can help me with this. Also can i put a stock LS1 cam in and it give me a little boost on my hp. I need all i can get. thanks Danny
They do make thermostats for the '04's now. The cool thing is the housing is not integrated, so they are much cheaper.
Any of the GenIII cams will work in your motor. You just need to make sure and pick the right one.
right and i have no idea on what would be the right one. I want and everyday type cam that im gonna get the most out of. Probably something with low end or mid range. Any ideas?
You will probably be best off getting a comp cam. You will get more out of it that you will a corvette cam. I would call their tech line and tell them what you are going to use it for and your mods.Quote:

I talked a while back to Allen about his thoughts on camshafts for our 4.8s. He said the Comp Cams 212/218 .522/.529 114 LSA LS1 camshaft is a pretty good choice. You may be able to get by with the 216/220 .525/.532 114 LSA. That 216 ID is pretty high, so I'd ask around some more before deciding.Quote:

Thunder Racing has the "Old Man Truck Cam" 214/220 .600/.525 115+2 LSA. I talked to one of their guys (I think his name was Dave, real nice guy), and he said they have tested this one in a 5.3 daily driver, but not a 4.8. I think the main concern is the lobe separation for this one.
One way or the other, you will need to upgrade your springs. Comp Cams 26918 is a common choice. And if your going to take it that far, upgrading to titanium retainers may not be a bad idea. Upgrading the retainers may be a bit of overkill, but if your going to the effort of doing the cam/spring upgrade, why not spend the $200 extra to beef it up.
Finally, before doing the camshaft, long tube headers are in order. A stall converter will enhance it even more. Plus a Nelson tune (or update).

Thanks for the help the only reason i was even thinking of a cam was found one kinda cheap. I really think i need to work on other stuff like computer, headers, something b/c my truck is pretty stock but im also on a budget. So maybe one day....lol. You know jiffy lube dont pay much.
