lets talk about a gear change in the front diff

I'm assuming anyone who has changed gears in a 4x4 has also done the gears in the front. how big of a bear is the front diff to change? what size is the front diff when ordering gears? anyone have any pics? would i need a different diff in the front to run 4.56's?

It's pretty easy to take out, no sawzall or torch required :lol: All you need is a few wrenches and jack stands.

You don't need a different diff to run 4.56's, just call one of the gear vendors and let em know what you're looking to do.

I unbolted mine, fell off the table and it came open.... its not hard to take apart.

Size is GM IFS 8.25.

Use a slide hammer to pull the axle shafts out. (Just like a front wheel drive car, there are snap rings) If you wanna put new seals in.

Doing it myself soon.

I had a little hard time putting a couple of this together....most on the pinion/ring calibration...toe in-out.

Other that that was a normal procedure.
