lq4's are 99-02 with Higher Compression?
lq9's are 03+ with Lower Compression and with better internals?
I've read so much I forget whats what now.
What's kinda a price range these are going for also? Thanks!

LQ4 has lower compression because it has dished pistons. LQ9 has flat top pistons and higher compression. Just make sure you stay away from the 99-01 because they have the longer crank snout that causes problems.
pl4yboy is right on, cept I've never seen a 2001 with the long snout. I have only seen it on the iron headed 99-00 LQ4s. Could have been some 317 headed ones though.
99-00 had iron heads as well, correct?
Correct Xlr8n. Sorry, I was probably off on my years. 99-00 sounds right.
what was the different compression ratios? and did the newer motors have better internals?
This may not be 100% true. At some point LQ9's got beefier rods. And later on in 2005 LQ4's started getting the same beefier rods. These rods are supposed to be the same ones that come in the LS2.
what kind of vechiles can I find the low compression LQ4's with the beefier rods in? I'm tossing around the idea of doing a rear mount.
Pretty sure that LQ9 always had the LS2 style rods with full floating pistons and coated skirts. Midyear '04 LQ4s got the same rods and full floating pistons and coatings. From MY04 up the only diff between the two is flat top pistons vs dished.
And any LQ4 in an '05 or newer will be the newer setup. Vans, trucks, SUVs, h2, doesn't matter.
