Add LS6 intake or not?
Im building a mild LQ4 for a work truck that will see some moderate towing. All I plan to do as of now is add some lightly ported 243 heads, Comp Cams 212/218 LSx Cam "HIGH LIFT", long tube headers, a tune, and a good exhaust. This engine will never see 6000 rpms. Would adding an LS6 intake be worth the trouble, or will the factory one off my 04 LQ4 engine work well at the lower rpms I will be running?

Wouldn't be worth changing all the accessories, water pump pully, alt bracket, crank pulley. Stock intake would tow better, no low end loss. Are you adding a converter?
-
Nope. Staying with a stock converter.

I'd stay with the stock intake or a TBSS intake

i did the swap back in the day and gained nothing. the truck manifold is under rated IMO.

Good to know. Thanks guys.

Also any gains you see with an LS6 will be to the upper RPMS

Google search Max NA HP truck intake. According to the threads you will find the truck intake is capable of exceeding both your goals and mine. If you will never see 6k the truck intake is ideal. I shift at 6400 and the truck intake serves me well.

I also did the swap on my 5.3 a while back and i couldnt tell any diff at all...maybe it was because i forgot to shave the ridges off the bottom of the intake and it couldnt sit flush over my coolant cross over and i had a massive intake leak. The truck intake has long runners and in theory is designed to help the lower rpm power. If your never gonna go over 6K save your money and buy somethin else. thats my :twocents:
