Rebuild or Part Out?
Ok, so I just bought a 6.0 with about 45k on it from a guy who said all it needed was to be honed and to have a new piston put in. Pulled it apart to find that one of the valve springs broke and the valve dropped into the cylinder. I know for sure that the head is done for, and it does need a piston, but what worries me are the two gouges in the cylinder wall. My question is can it be bored out or did I just get a new pile of parts to try and sell?

might be able to bore it. then if everything else is good, you will have a 370, or go all out and build you a 408..... :naughty.:

Hmmm...I like the sound of that. Now just gotta find the money to fund it...

Get it bored, I bought a 6.0L that had water sitting in it for almost a year and the cylinder walls were rusty and pitted pretty bad. But they still cleaned up just fine with a .030'' overbore. You could possibly got the one cylinder bored and just replace the piston, but for about 800 dollars you can build a nice 370ci shortblock out of it. I think you'll be safe in this case, if you get it bored out.

Thanks, Im planning on taking it to get bored out as soon as I can get it all torn down and build up some extra cash. If I only bore out the one cylinder wouldnt that throw the motor out of balance though? I always thought if you do one you have to do them all.

yes, all need to be bored .030, those pistons cant be too expensive.

That's what I figured...Im guessing a piston and new sets of rings should be what, $400 max?

not sure, but would be a nice <new> shortblock when your done :)

That plus new heads...its gonna be an almost new motor :yippee:
