I have an 89 RCLB that is receiving an LS1/T56 (was 305/5 spd). I used the Trans Adapt mounts required for the Shoenfeld headers. It seems my 1 piece, aluminum drive shaft is a couple inches too long. I called one place and they said the factory aluminum shafts couldn't be modified (I don't remember why).
Any suggestions? Any one else shortened their aluminum drive shaft (is it strong enough for the LS1)? Should I get a 2 piece? Find a steel one and make it fit?

I'd call a couple other drivetrain/driveshaft shops. I could see, maybe, if they didn't stock the correct diameter/wall thickness tube, to "lengthen" a shaft...But, I don't see why its so difficult to shorten a driveshaft. That shop you called just doesn't do aluminum, because most truck driveshafts are steel. I'm talking semi's, dumptrucks, heavy-duty trucks, etc., and most cars for that matter. Thats where the money is for them. So just keep calling around, you'll find someone that can do it.:thumb:
