This is the hardest part of the process. Another pair of hands to help would be best but its doable solo. Make sure to use some tranny fluid on the o-ring for lube and that it goes in seated properly. I used a pry bar to hold down the cover while my other hand pushed the snap ring in.
is it in the truck still? did you lower the transmission down? i find that with it still in the truck having a long prybar and a peice of wood jamming the bar into the cover just enough to push it in helps. put 1 side of the snap ring in, walk the rest of the ring in. take a flat head and make sure the ring expands into the groove like its suppose to.
thanks guys, im gonna give it another shot after it cools down a bit outside. Cant wait to build a shop.
Just make extra sure you have the ring in place. You don't want to deal with the carnage if it comes loose.
i was VERY lucky! i left out the 4th gear servo (put the stock one but vs the billet...i forgot about it) well i already had the tranny in, so i decided to pull the cover and swap them. yeah i got stuck 40 miles from my house with the servo JAMMED inside the tranny and it pouring fluid out all over the LTs. needless to say i had to pull the tranny just to "Tap" the servo straight. i swear just a tap, but by me trying to jam it back right with it still in the truck and not knowing what happened, i ruined the servo pin trying to get it out. most of the time the servo ring not being right it will cause the servo to crack the case where it forces the servos out.
