de badge problems
so i finally got around to removing my side trim and badges, the problem is that there is a ring of black crud around where the trim use to be. i have tried goo gone, wax, rubbing compound, and washing over and over, is there some kind of trick to get this stuff off. thanks for the help.

If the black stuff you're referring to is the foam-like adhesive tape they used to adhere the trim to the truck you need to get a 3M eraser wheel that mounts into a hand drill and use it to power the stuff off. You can buy the wheels at auto paint and some part stores.

Yeah that wheel gets it off quick with no scratches or burn marks.

it isnt the tape the tape was no problem, just some hot water and fingure nail. its like some dirt or hardened wax.

I like to take a somewhat scientific approach. Get some cotton balls and every sort of cleaner or chemical you have in the house and dab a little of 1 chemical on a cotton ball and try to rub the stuff off. I you find a chemical that happens to break the bonds of the black stuff, you can just get a rag and clean that stuff up. Its amazing what stuff will clean automotive chemicals up.
I even found out that morning burst facial cleanser is the only thing that will cut the resin binder in thermal grease used on electronic device heat sinks.

Its probably going to have to be buffed out, my dmax has the same problem im just to lazy to do anything about it at them moment
-
Try one of those mr clean magic erasers. They really are magical.

thanks for all the help, i finally just bought some better rubbing compound and went to town with my buffer, it took some time but it all came off, i will get some pictures up of how it looks now. im pretty happy with how it turned out.

Not to steal your thread, but I'm getting ready to do the same thing and wasn't sure how to remove the CHEVROLET sticker from my tailgate. Will an eraser wheel work for that too?

Heat gun for the stickers.
