A new Circle D billet piece... and a fluid experiment... interesting results...

I just recently installed my complete setup consisting of LQ4, frt mount 76mm, 4L80E swap with a circle d 258mm billet TC, and 261xhd internals in my stock t-case housing...
A local shop (Cooks Racing in Cowpens, SC) built my 4L80E to the MAX and he specified a 50/50 mixture of ford Type F and Castrol Super Blue Hydraulic fluid... It took 12 qts for a fresh rebuild and a new TC. I specified approximately a 3400 stall converter from Circle D. What I have found with this fluid, is extreme streetability... believe it or not it drives like a stock truck almost, and the extremely hard shifts are NOT felt, until you get in it pretty hard. ZERO torque management and the stiffest springs and valve body mods possible in the trans. The beauty of all this is at only 5-6 psi, it stalls up to approx 4100-4400 depending on temperature and after 5 back to back 4x4 passes and very hilly driving to and from the track, the fluid temp hasn't been over 135 degrees!!!! Even after a long brake stall on the last pass waiting for the D***head in the left lane to realize what staging lights meant.... The fluid is obviously much thinner and lighter weight than dexron, and Castrol Super Blue is extremely temperature stable and absorbs heat easily and dissipates it fast as well. Its a low surface tension fluid thats on the thin side, hence the Type F to thicken it somewhat. But it contains NO teflon or other slippery crap like the new dexron 6 and other synthetic fluids which give your clutches and other friction materials something else to deal with to harness the torque. I can provide a video proof of the driving charachteristics and stall speeds at only 5 psi. 10+ will put it about 4800. Which is awesome for Full boost 4wd launches, yet for some unknown reason provides excellent street manners as well. I have read and been told elsewhere that this was TRACK only stuff and was taboo on the street. Why i don't know when it works so well and the man building my trans specified it.

Just figured i would let you all know what i have found using this mixture... it may be worth a try to some to see if you have the same results. It certainly is cheap enough at $50 a five gallon bucket. They ONLY sell it in 5 gallon, 30 gallon, and 55 gallon drums. And my case of valvoline type F was $43.

Interesting might want to look into this more before i get my new 80e in. i would hate to switch oil types.

Just curious though what does a maxed out 80e consist of?

So... I have "mixed" a few fluids... I just make sure i warm it up before i go beat on it... not so much an issue in texas but that stuff is thick and if its 40-50 degrees i would not want to jump on the highway with cold fluid.... but again I abuse my stuff a Bit... I have actually found it to be rather thin... this is the ISO46 fluid.. i should have added that in the initial post... YOU HAVE TO USE ISO46!!!!!!!!! And yes chris is great... good help and very knowledgeable. Builds a great torque converter!

Maxed out 80E is devised from most every high performance 80E part out there.. from sprag to 300M shafts and completely new valve body and a ton of clutches.. a bigger drum to hold them... just lots of goodies tossed inside really. I didnt build it... i simply told him the environment it would see and what it had to do... he says simple enough.. "how deep is your wallet son?" lol

did you or will you ever run it with just a normal fluid?

id be interested to see some back to back testing with just your every dasy fluid and this mixture

mitch i personally wouldent change fluids like that unless your having a problem with your current fluid, the clutches retain alot and it might be bad to mix, not saying it cant be done i just wouldent risk it with such high priced clutches. and that maxed out 80e sounds alot like mine lol, i was just curious if there were parts out there i didn't know about. Cant wait to try out my Circle D i know Chris wont let me down :hyper2:

Get some vides up man, i would liek to see the streetablility of a high stall.

I will get some up tonight on youtube and post the links here.. Its excellent at ALL throttle levels. Its actually the best when in town in slow speed traffic.. the high stall helps absorb the extremely harsh shifts and it doesn't take much throttle to get it moving. Actually you can't even feel it shift, or hear it for that matter.. The engine stays at a constant rpm, dependent of torque application, until the converter locks up... which is very harsh, but i believe i can play with the shift points and the lockup points and improve that tremendously. If i knew back then what i know now... a stall would be in everything i own.
