well my sts kit did not come with the wiring for the buzzer system sooo i went ahead and purchased a little red light and mounted it on my pillar post with my guages. im wondering how i can wire it to the pump solinoid to turn the red light on when the pump stops to work? i purchased a 40amp 4 prong relay and i not very good with electrical stuff.
basically i need it to give power to the light when the pump stops working so it will light up.
I believe the sts kits activate the buzzer when there is too much oil pressure, backed up, not voltage.
So if you're using the sts stuff I'm not sure how that's gonna work out, to power the LED when the pump stops.
When that small pressure sensor on the pump sees more than 1psi of oil pressure, it trips and the buzzer sets off, or it can trip your LED.
You can have power to the pump but no flow, that's why they use pressure activated buzzer. I think you need to go the same route as sts' idea.
hmmm interesting. i really dont know what other components to use to match the sts system without purchasing theres and i dont really want to to that.
you know, i ran my sts kit on the avalanche for about 50K with no issues, but i did this.
i used a good sealed relay, goo wire, good connectors and I just had the pump run when the engine was started.
Never had an issue and there's no reason why the pump can't run on 12v all the time.
You'll have to come up with something that detects when the pump quits pushing oil, not just power to the pump.
I got it, run a clear hose from the pump, through the cab, along the dash, then into the valve cover.
That way you can see the oil moving, jk.
I'll try to throw around some ideas and help out.
Not sure what pressure the oil runs at on these setups, but I would imagine you could use an old school carb fuel pressure gauge, they only go to 10psi or so, so you should be able to monitor 1psi if that's all the pump supplies. They make electronic or mechanical gauges.
Also, putting a LED in line with the power wire SHOULD show when the the pump is actually flowing. I believe if the pump fries, the power will stop passing thru the circuit (atleast that's how someone suggested wiring up the LED for the electronic water pump). I THINK you would wire the led from the ground side, so that when it stops working, power stops passing thru the ground.
would be nice to get some sort of a alert system just incase, right now my method is every once and a while at a stop lower the passenger window and listen lol. this sorta sucks lol

Just get a normally open 1psi hobbs pressure switch and tire your alarm or LED into it. Put the pressure switch on the inlet side of the pump so if a build up of oil pressure occurs, it will close that pressure switch and trigger your alarm, or LED. The way a scavenge pump is supposed to work with a rear mounted turbo is that the scavenge pump is supposed to always be pulling the oil from the turbo's oil drain - no pressure in that line, just vacuum. And I don't blame you for not wanting to talk to STS. Those guys are idiots and I can't stand them
