I have been thinking, in a lot of these forums, everyone keeps saying that the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 blocks are the same. If this is so how come no one is punching out their 5.3 for a stroker kit, or going up to a 6.0. It seems to me it would be more cost effective and reliable to stroke and build a 5.3 rather than buy a stock 6.0 out of a wrecked truck and put it in. It just seems like you could build the motor for the application you want, turbo, blower or nx. I know parts for these motors are expensive, but I was just wondering why no one seems to be doing this. Any ideas or experiences???

alot of these guys are picking up motors for CHEAP! besides if it does cost a bit more, its worth it to not have a pain in the ass on your hands. and then you always get to sell off your old motor to make up for some of the hit on your wallet.
im not sure if you can stroke and build a 5.3 to a 6.0??

Do you have any idea how much it costs to have a block resleeved for the 6.0 pistons? It is cheaper to buy a used 6.0 than it is to just have the machine work done on a 5.3 block to make it a 6.0. You can't simply just go all willy-nilly with a boring bar and open the bore to just any size. They don't give you a lot of extra metal to work with when it comes to overboring the block.

Going from a 3.78" bore to a 4" bore is a HUGE step up... It was never designed for it. I'd be you'd be in the water jackets somewhere.
Besides that, 6.0 heads are better. I just saw a longblock sell for $750 with 30K miles.

No people are boring and stroking the 5.3 to 6.0. I've done it to my suburban, and I believe one other person did it on the boards as well.
And my 6.0 is now displacing 420ci, as well.
