96 vortec 7.4??????
i might have a chance to get a 96 4wd sclb w/ only 55k miles on it! it has a 5spd manual and 7.4 in it, but the motor says vortec on it.
is there a difference between this 7.4 and 95-earlier?or did gm just put vortec on the engine cover to match the new smallblocks that year?
the intake mani looks kinda like a LS style. the truck is an old forrest service truck and is in excellent shape. i drove it today and it has GOBBS of trq. it feels like a diesel (redlines at 4500).lol. but i still got sidways thru 3rd gear:LOL: i think it would make a great work truck.
does anyone have/had one of these? any info (good or bad) would be great. thnx
btw, let me no if i should post this somewhere else.

The BBC vortecs have a bit more power and TQ, comp.. It is a good engine. The production big block you would want is one from a boat. They come with forged rods, most have good steel cranks in them, are 330hp also. What you have is a good motor thow.. Older gen BBC stuff will bolt up to it, I am pretty sure..

unlike the '75-'95 heads, the Vortec 454 heads are no longer peanut ports, but traditional large ovals. This hurts off idle torque, but helps midrange torque. Also, they have more modern combustion chambers. You can still bolt traditional intakes to them. But since they have modern chambers, they make more power with less spark advance.
