Transmission Differences
Could someone point me in the right direction? Or possibly make a sticky for transmissions? I've read before that different year transmissions and the vehicles they are out of are different. I have a '05 5.3L and found a 91 4L80E tranny... would this work? And what would I need to make it work (i.e. yoke, spacers, etc..)? :thanks:

The 4l80e has been mostly unchanged since it came out in '91. Im pretty sure there is no difference between the '91 4l80e and my '96 4l80e. All you'll need is the flexplate and spacer from an '02+ (i think) 6.0/4l80e combo like one out of a 2500 hd truck. You wont use all the bolts in the bellhousing. I think I only used 5.

So what about the 4L60E's? As in will a 60E from a S-10 Blazer work or will it have to be from a truck/van?
I've found some 60E's from trucks for $800, is this a good price? And what's a good price for a 80E from a latel model truck?

Far as I know all the 60e's are the same no matter what they are out of but I think there is a little difference in the years although they will all work maybe with some minor changes. A 60e for $800 is too high imo. It better be built and/or very low miles. You can get a good, low mileage 80e for that.

The bellhousing spacing is different on 60e's from non LS motor to LS motors.
-
You can use them you just won't be able to use all the bellhousing bolts.

So where can I get one of those 80e's for that price flattopwill? I have had no luck finding one under 1200. And the 800 for a 60e was the best I've found around here so far.

Would a 4L65E be a good transmission for my 5.3L? What is involved w/putting one in? Same flexplate and conv. as the 60E? I found a sweet deal on one and want to know if I should get it. I had a deal for a 80E going but the guy called me today and informed me that the housing was cracked.
