Newbie question. Just curious. I'm hoping to put a 5.7 into my '89 and assuming everything I've picked up here applies. Is it because it's a car engine?

The LS1 is a 5.7. There are tons of people that have put these motors in their trucks.
It was the first LS engine Chevy produced, and, in my opinion, one of the best all around choices for an older truck engine swap. Thats why I used it for my '96 shortbed. Being a serious Hi-Performance Mercury outboard powerboat guy, when I saw that this engine was "all" aluminum, with coil-per-cylinder ignition, etc., I knew it had potential for excellent horsepower per pound performance. Had to have it. The best years for stock 5.7 LS1's are 2001 thru 2004.
