looks like no answered it, so basicly i'm bumping it.
i am kind of curious about the 4l80e myself, i've also heard thier powerloss is outragous. heard good about the kind of power they can handle tho.

To be honest I would just beef up that 4l60e. The 80e eats up quite a bit of power. What mods do you have? If you are mostly stock definately stay with the 60e, it can handle way more power than you are putting down.

If you find you just have to have the 80e you can get a shift controller from a 6.5l diesel truck. If I remember correctly the diesel transmission controller is stand-alone from the PCM. You'll have to figure out a bit of how to wire it in with the gasoline engine but it shouldn't be too tough.

tci makes a control that is pretty pricey and trans go makes a manual valve body shift kit.Im using the transgo kit and absouletly love it.You have to manually shift all the gears, but I have no problem with that in my truck.I went though several "built" 700r4s before decided to go with a real transmission. My truck only ran .1 second slower with the 80 vs the 700r4 and I got that back by removing the 3.73 gears installing 4.10 gears.
