'96 Chevy 5.3L swap

Just some pics of the progress, started last week, should be done this week.

No mods on this one, just a stock 5.3L to replace the knocking v6.

Notice how far back the Dirty Dingo mounts position the engine.
Stock manifolds cleared, looks like shorty headers would clear as well.
Need to finish up the harness, fuel lines, and water hoses, should be able to start it.

Awesome. Thats some fast work. Hopefully mine wont be far behind you. How did you do the fuel system? - Fully redone from tank to intake? Just from filter forward? or just adapters on the ends?

The truck has a feed line and return line, and so does the fuel rail, so we'll just connect those lines and be done.
Oh ya, a new fuel pump needs to be installed, higher pressure needed.

Just got done with another part, the stock v6 clutch fan and radiator shroud are a bolt on as well, lol. I'm just waiting to run into something that is difficult. I mean we've done these before, but this one is just going too easy, something bad is gonna happen, lol.

no reason not to, the swap is well worth it.

any 5.3L is going to be a lot stronger than the v6, so just get a stock one in there, be done and save for more mods down the road.

i'm guilty of it too, i gather parts and make a long list of things i'd like to do, and my projects never get done, lol.

this is probably one of the first swaps we done that didn't have some sort of blower, heads, cams, etc lol.

damn, this is a lot easier.

My thoughts exactly, I've been contemplating trading my junker in when I go to get a new truck next month, but I figure they won't give me ANYTHING for it so I might as well keep it and do the swap :ugh2:

Thanks for putting up the pics, I'd really like to get my truck to you guys this summer for the swap, but it being in Maine right now and you being in Texas is a bit of logistics issue... So... come make a Nelson Performance a few thousand miles north!

Whats wrong with the existing in-tank fuel pump? It should supply the needed PSI for the 5.3 you need.

200K+ miles on it and I believe those trucks ran at 43.5psi, correct?

LSx's run at 58psi or so.

It may keep up, but being so old and not originally designed for higher fuel pressure, we're gonna change it just incase.

Did you replace the tranny also?
If no, how do you plan on controlling it?

No, stock trans. It's a 60e, so we'll figure it out and get the pcm to control the trans. should work just like the newer 60e's.
