Right now I am running 17inch wheels with a nitto 255/50 which gives me an overall diameter of 29 inches. My stock gear ratio is the 3.42. Is this combo slowing the truck down, if so should i go to a larger diameter wheel and tire combo or step up to a 3.73 rearend?
A 3.73:1 wouldn't hurt, but if you're going to regear... I'd go to a 4.10:1 so you could run a taller tire if you wanted to or there's always a 3.90:1
255/50's should be exactly 27". 275/50 is 27.8" tall. these are what i run in the Nitto 450's and i have 4.10's
Yeah your right I measured today and they are 27 inch diameter. Is the 4.10 gear a good match with those size tires. I do alot of freeway driving but also want the good speed around town. I was not sure if I should go 3.73 or 4.10?
im on a factory sized tire from a 2005 silverado. with my 3.73 runnin 70mph puts the rpm right at or a little above 2000 rpm. i wouldnt put on a 4.10 on my truck just because of how much highway driving i do (about 350 miles per week). if i had loud exhaust it would probably drive me crazy.
3.73:1 is the best choice I'd think unless you plan a monster cam or taller tires. It'd keep you from taching out as badly on the freeway.Quote:

I have a 28" tire, 0.70:1 OD, and 4.10:1 in my F150 and it hits 2400rpm at 70mph if I run it that fast...
