I have a 2004 Avalanche with 5.3 Auto right now. I just purchased a new LY6 looking to swap it into the Avalanche. What parts are needed for the swap? Engine harness, ETC. It was such a good deal I figured there must be some sort of work around to upgrade from a Gen III to a Gen IV engine.
My goal is to drop it in the truck and roll, I just fear it will take more than a tune to deal with the 58X to 24X issue and keep the VVT.

What did you actually get with the LY6? Are we talking complete with injection and harness or just a long block?
Crate motor everything from intake to pan including, exhaust manifolds, plugs wires, ignition coils ect ect No PCM

The way I do Gen III to IV conversions involves replacing internals. Your going to have to replace the 58x wheel with a 24x wheel. Also you need to replace the cam gear from a 4x to a 1x. Swap wires A and C on the front cam sensor plug. Relocate your Gen III knock sensors to the sides of the block which involves drilling and tapping two holes. Use you existing 04 wiring harness. Just did one last week. LY6 in a 63 Ford unibody with 02 PCM and electronics
Lingenfelter has the conversion module for 58x to 24x, haven't really heard any feedback on it.
i would get the module before even thinking about pulling the crank, other than that, you'll need to change your knock sensor setup, and possibly a few connectors or sensors

Knock Sensor extension harness and injector adaptors. I just want to make sure I cover all my bases.
All input is more than welcome this will be my first swap.
i just got me a genIII LQ4 so everything would be the same, saves me a little money not having to convert, but if i could have gotten an ly6 for the same price i probably would have. i hope everything goes to plan for you, good luck
