conversion woes
I hope I can explain this well enough. I recently finished a 5.3 swap in my 85 k10 and it runs great unless it sit for awhile idling. then it acts like it runs out of gas and dies. On top of that if you turn the key on after it dies the fuel pump wont turn on and you have to wait a minute or so before it turns on again and it will fire right up again and not miss a beat. This only happens at an idle because i drove it about 10 miles with no issues. I hope i explained this well enough and if any one has any input i would greatly appreciate it.

sounds like an air bubble in the heads/top end. Remove the hose from the crossover air bleed hose and let any air out of the heads. It's usually best to take the upper hose off the radiator and pour coolant into it until you get a steady stream of coolant out of the crossover hose. Once you have a steady flow from the heads, put the hoses back on and fill the radiator. Be sure to have the front of the vehicle higher than the rear so that the air will move to the front of the engine block.
When the coolant system encounters steam at the sensor the PCM will put the engine into a type of self preservation mode, disabling cylinders and flooding them with raw fuel to aid in cooling the engine down.

Thanks! That makes sense since i recently had the top end completely apat and put head gaskets in. i will try that and let you know how it goes.

one of the most common mistakes that happens when swapping heads/gaskets is putting the gasket on wrong, causing no water flow through the head. its easy to screw that up if you don't follow the writing on the gasket and just fit them on there not paying attention to the correct orientation.

Now you got me worry, I thought there was only one way they could go on, do you think this is a possibility in my case?

could very well be. If you are unsure that you put it on correctly, chance are you didn't, damn Murphy and his law. :sad:

haha well i drove it like ten miles so it would have cooked it in that time, but its only like 10 degrees here on a warm day now and i will go start it and and it will only take a min for it to do this and i cant imagine that the motor would get that hot in that short amount of time. looks like i will just have to pull the plug out of the head to see if there is flow or not.

I had an air pocket that overheated it in 5 minutes.
