I don't think it makes alot of sense honestly. They are not designed solely with performance in mind. The thumpr cams have a reverse split, and massive overlap designed only for how it sounds at idle? Why not get a big rowdy cam that sounds just like it, plus get a ton of horsepower? Plus you could gain quite a bit of static compression that you won't get with a thumpr, due to the small intake lift/duration and overlap.
I guarantee a 232 or higher cam is going to "thump" as much as you could want. :twocents:
See if you can talk to some people that have run them. I've seen multiple threads about people getting them, loving the sound, but end up with the cam in the classifieds section a few months later. If all that matters to you is that sound, which we all love, than go for it.
If its a mostly stock truck, the thumper cam is not going to make it all that much faster. There lies the problem and my hunch as to why people get rid of them. The cam makes your truck sound like a 10 second strip warrior, it gets attention, people want to race you. But you cant really back up the sound when your knocking out 16/15 second passes. Its almost like putting on a lighted nitrous purge system without running nitrous. You can make people think your fast, but you know your really not and that would get boring really quick to me.
Just my opinion.
Dont Get It Lol,,i Had This Cam In My 08' 4.8,,i Really Loved The Sound,,but Power Wasnt There As Mean As It Sounded.
It Would Struggle To Do A Burnout.put The Stock Cam Back In,burnouts Like Crazy Lol.
So If U Just Want Sound And No Power Get It.and u need atleast a 3800 stall
ok so yeah i obviously want the choppy idle sound but i obviously want a hp gain if im tearing apart my motor so i can back up the noise, what would be a good cam for my daily driver ? i got an airraid intake, tb spacer ,granatelli maf, superchip, flowmaster 44, i plan on doing the new fast intake, headers and cam, (its a 5.3L) maybe some high flow cats and its getting a 3 inch drop this week and im obviously going to get a tune when its done
if u want a choppy idle with power to back it up,get a custom grind cam bro.
Are you wanting to keep the stock stall as its your daily driver?
alright thanks
For your truck: 224/230 .581/.588 112 LSA+2. Sounds nasty and puts out good numbers. But as you may need to know--you will need a converter. Check out the Circle D 3200 stall.
cool thanks
