Tire Update

Just thought I would give everyone a review on my latest tire purchase. I know a few of you were considering these so, here's what I think about them.

A couple months back I purchased new Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G051 235/75s R16 tires for my 2000 Silverado RCSB RWD.

I had previously been running Michelins but they just weren't getting the job done any more. Just a tap of the gas and they would spin like hell. And it seemed like everytime it rained a drop, my truck would be sliding everywhere. So this time I decided to try something different. Did some research on TireRack.com and decided that these Yokohamas would be the ideal tire for my truck. Realizing that winter would be here in good ol' Tennessee soon, I was hoping for these to work out pretty nicely.

Well quite simply, I am VERY pleased with this tire purchase. I now have about 2000 miles on them and couldn't be happier. Immediately, I recieved better dry traction (no more spinning everytime I tap the gas), better wet traction (haven't fish-tailed once), and all around better road handling.

Also, we just received out first heavy snow and ice storm and these babies didn't slip once. Now remind you, this is a RWD truck so that's not a small accomplishment. Especially since I drove nearly an hour and a half on a solid sheet of ice :eek:
And I do mean ICE.......the trees here were breaking down the middle due to the weight of the ice on the branches.

Anyways, that's about all there is. Hope this info helps someone out. These are great tires. :thumb:

I guess you haven't taken them to the track yet cause mine suck for trying to get off the line. Spun everytime, even lowered air pressure down to 20psi and still spun em up. Also for some strange reason they seem to want to wander on me. My Pirellis never did that but the next tire choice will be the Kuhmo Extas but they were backordered in my size 245/70/16 JMHO...Zed

Even with a locker they spin? Sounds to me like you need to get a Eaton posi.

But as far as the track goes, these won't ever be going. I got these mainly for daily driving. Its odd though that they are not working well for you, they were ranked with having some of the best traction on the market.

Yeppers, on the last pass I was loaded up and was going home they only sqeaked a little off the line but that was w/ 300 some odd extra pounds sitting over them and still on 20psi. I also noticed that they are a harder compound as the tread rating is much higher than my old tires 500 treadwear vs. 300 so they should last a long time. Also my observation is that the contact patch is smaller than my old tires even though they are the same size. This could be the factor in the traction issues, and the sidewalls seem to flex more when cornering at speeds. Again this is my opinion, not flaming on your tire choice just stating my experience w/ mine. I'm glad to see you are having good success w/ yours. :hshake: Also what pressure do you run at when driving,cruising, etc ???

What width wheels are you two running? if they are not the same width you won't get the same results. Wider rims tend to make the tires run on the edges and narrow rims make to tread contact on the centerline of the tire.

Stock chrome plated steel. Ya know the heavy MOFO's hahaha lol j/k :lol: ...Zed

I'm running mine on the ol' 16" Alloy Stockers, not even polished.
As far as tire pressure, I'm using the standard 35psi.
A few ppl have complaints on these tires, I have heard numerous times that these are really hard to keep balanced and that they decrease gas mileage.
So I suppose a few bad sets may be circulating out there. It's not all that uncommon to get tires with inferior tread or sidewalls, maybe you should really check them out to see if that is the problem.
