If you are gonna upgrade gears, skip the 3.9s and go with the 4.10s. This is gonna do a number on your gas mileage, but if you are wanting better times I would go with the 4.10s. You have to remember though, while 4.10s may grab better and hit harder, you are not adding any power. You are just distributing it differently, so don't expect a huge 1/4 time difference.
well with the 4.8 ecsb truck it went from 18mpg to 21mpg with the 4.10 and it droped me .5 in the 1/4, and yes that is what i was thinking with the e.t being low if it would help or not, thanks
If ya got the topend HP to pull it, go for a 4.10:1 also good if you plan to run a heavy tire/wheel combo or 30"+.
Just stay south of 75mph on the freeway.
I am about to find out what my fuel mileage has been with 4.10s and 26.5" diameter tires. I run between 60-85 on the highway to and from work. I hope it averages out about 18mpg. We'll see tomorrow.
Yes, I agree with staying south of 75 on the highway. My denali has 4.10's and between 70-73 or so I can get like 17.5-18 mpg. If i cruise at 80 I get like 13.5-14mpg. Now keep in mind this is with a 6.0 and awd and i really have to try to get that milage. I turn 2300 rpm at 70mph.
It's not just RPMs, it's the drag created at those speeds is the problem I see.
My WRX gets the same economy at 65mph as it does at 80mph... but it's also boosted.
well, my running around town and on the highway to 85 mph averaged out at 15 mpg. I got 17 mpg running at 70 mph on the interstate over the holidays. I will check tomorrow the mileage running flat out at 80-90 on my return trip tonight.
