help ur engine run cooler. a 170 stat opens up at 170 and a 180 at 180.lol. stock is 190 i believe
If you have efans, then you need to get them tuned for the lower stat otherwise it doesn't do a lot of good except take longer to warm up. With a lower stat (160, 170 or 180) and tuned fans, your engine temps will be cooler than the stock 192.
The question I have is with the lower temps, do these engines produce better? More H/P, more torque? Run smoother?
Just to be clear - a lower-temperature thermostat merely opens at a lower temperature. Whether or not your engine runs cooler is totally dependent upon the efficiency of your cooling system.
For a basic street vehicle, I doubt that you would be able to measure much of a HP difference for an engine running at 195º vs 180º.
Edit:
One caveat - a cooler-running engine will provide more margin for staying away from detonation. So if you're running on the edge of detonation, going cooler will probably allow for the PCM to pull less timing and you will lose less HP.
