Hey like the title states... could a NNBS 4L70E tranny leak if it was overfilled? It is registering on the stick about a half to a quart over filled... thats a guess. Its about a 1/4-1/3 of an inch higher than it should be on the stick. So could it leak if I overfilled it? I did a converter change and its leaking now a little bit so i assumed that it was the front seal... but it looks to be overfilled to a bit, so i was just curious. Thanks for the help!
No, it won't leak. Over filled trannys burn up.
Too much fluid doesn't allow for proper circulation.
i just drained it down to a better level out of one of the cooler lines... so we will see if anything happens. i doubt it though. do you think it could hurt it if it is leaking for a while before i get some more money to fix it. i dont feel like removing that beast again.
There may be some residual fluid coming from when you put the converter on. Just wipe it clean. Does it go away after driving for a day?
Some might blow out the vent tube, but if its too full usually the fluid gets whipped up by the rotating parts, gets aerated, looses its lubricity and burns up.
Are you sure you're checking it right. It need to be at full operating temperature or close to it (the trans not just the engine)
It must be on level ground with the engine running
apply the parking break
apply the regular break
put the selector in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, D, N, R, P pausing at each for no less than three seconds
Then with the engine still running check the dipstick noting whichever side is the lowest. That's the true level.
