Texas Tech fires Leach

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech fired coach Mike Leach on Wednesday, just two days after he was suspended by the school as it investigated his treatment of a player with a concussion.

The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, just minutes before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.

Liggett said the letter said Leach was "terminated with cause effective immediately."

In February, Leach and the school agreed to a five-year, $12.7 million contract. According to terms of the deal, Leach was due a $800,000 bonus on Dec. 31 if he were still the head coach at Texas Tech.
Leach was suspended by the university on Monday after receiver Adam James alleged the coach twice confined him to small, dark spaces while the practiced.

James is the son of former NFL player and ESPN analyst Craig James.

Texas Tech plays Michigan State on Saturday in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

Tech is the second Big 12 school to launch an internal investigation into a coach's treatment of his players.

On Nov. 16, Kansas investigated Mark Mangino, who got a big raise after he was national coach of the year and went 12-1 in 2007. Some players said he was insensitive, though others defended him.

Mangino resigned Dec. 3 after reaching a settlement with the school that was later disclosed as a $3 million buyout.

In an affidavit included in Tuesday's court filing, Leach said he "would never intentionally harm or endanger a player" and that he has been "forced into this situation without being afforded any process." He also said "absolutely" no evidence had been given to him that showed he had violated any university rules or standards

If Leach really did what he did then he deserves it IMO.

I cant get over how much the college coaches make!!! And tech is not even that good. I make fun of my wife because she goes there :lol:

That shows the rooms that James was put in when he had a concussion and was told to sit out. I think it's COMPLETELY outrageous claims, and there is definitely more behind him being fired and James' claims. I think Gerald Myers and the decision was in the wrong for this.

that little bitch just got pissed that he had to sit out cuz he was hurt and complained to daddy to get back at him. That sack of shit deserves the shed.

Don't get me wrong--I don't like Tech just as much as the next guy--but this scandal is full of BS. It is a fact that Meyers and Leach have had an on-going feud, but there must be some other stuff involved that we all don't know about. Sure, Leach should not have done that, but if that is truly what happened and those WERE the "rooms" that he was placed in, a suspension would have been sufficient. But firing a coach because of putting a player in those places doesn't make sense. Like I said--there must be other stuff going on...

leach got suspended for what he did to the player..he got fired for challenging Techs suspension and wanting to take them to court. Leach also admitted he secluded the player but said it wasn't as bad as it seems.

Well it's going to cost tech ALOT more then the 800k they were going to pay him to go to court and then when they lose and have to pay that. I hope Leach gets every penny.
