Just a basic question. Is the 4L60e as bad of a transmission as a lot of people make it out to be? If so, what are the issues? Thanks!

Well i look at the 60E as more of a car tranny, 80E as a truck tranny.
60E's can be built to hold up to a lot of horsepower but not for a long time. Parts are just smaller and weaker. But then again my friend has a 60E in a camaro running 7.2's. Had basic rebuild, and that was 2 years ago. No probs.
If you're putting out the horses and goin to the track, 80E all the way.
I have a 4L65e in a ecsb with HP/TQ in the upper 400s. Mine got a performance rebuild about a year ago. It has seen the track plenty with slicks. Mine is holding up but for how long who knows. I know others that have wasted a 60e with stock power, seems like the luck of the draw and a good rebuild helps too.
I would not recommend towing your bosses 6000 lb tractor on a 2000 lb trailer with one. Mine hasn't been the same since. :doofus: In fact I wouldn't recommend towing anything with one, even with a stock engine.
R.I.P. 1-2 shift.
