4.8 Headers & Cam
Hi im looking to put a set of headers and a cam in my 01 4.8. Any idea what type I should go with. Longtube or shortube. I dont know much about either one but I like the way it sounds with them. Right now I have a K & N air intake with dual exhaust and a hypertech max energy programmer.
And as for the cam I was looking at a 222/224 .568/.571 like casey.shoemake has in his truck. But is there anything else I would need to change while I was at it like springs, retainers, locks?
This is casey.shoemake truck with a 4.8 cam and headers.

Long tube are better shorty wont gain you anything. You will need a convert with that cam. New spring, locks, retainers, push rods, I would do lifter but you don't have too. Ebay that hypertech and get a tune.

longtube hands down, and that cam is big for a lifted truck, think of the
Comp 212/218?
COMP CamsŪ - Cam Details

I'll check into that thanks for the info

You will definently need a converter with the cam i have. I lost a lot of power down low, I think im going with a circle d to fix it. If you want to stick with the stock converter go with the 212/218 or maybe even the 220/220. Both of these lope good on a 112-113, and make excellent torque. If you can swing the extra dough for a converter id go with a cam like mine.

Thanks man I really like the way your truck sounds, plus i'm lifted 6" and with 22's so I cant afford to loose anymore power.

thanks. Yeah i hear ya my cousin had an 05 ecsb z71 lifted on 37s with a stock tune and 3.42 and i SUCKED horribley!

save your money and buy a 6.0. Even if your 4.8 was cammed it would still suck since your lifted on huge wheels. my opinion
-
Too much trouble to go to a 6.0. I checked into all that. Gotta change trans lines, tranny, crossmember, not counting the electrical part
-
Your right on that, it would bolt up to your trans but it wouldn't last too long
