Anyone heard of this?

I have noticed a few times at the dunes my truck won't spin the tires in fourwheel drive in reverse? Is there a rev limiter or something that would cause this? My truck is a 2000 Sierra 1500. It got me stuck today. A tiny hill going to slow the wife and two girls with me. I made it right to the top started to dig put it in reverse to back down and couldn't get any momentum going. The second I hit the bottom I was done. Never really been a issue before don't spend a lot of time reversing in the dunes. The thing that really makes me mad is have pulled a quad hauler with four quads over that hill before with out a problem. My wife does not like the whole offroading deal since one of her college roomies died in a rollover offroading if she does come we have to go slow.

I dune in Glamis, Ca. and have never had that problem.

what size tires and gearing do you have. ive had it happen to me a few times up here in little sahara (utah dunes) in reverse after ive dug in alittle the truck doesnt want to go in reverse at all and just sits at about 2 grand. but im was running 33 with 3.73 and at utah altitude its death.

The truck has plenty of power 285/75/16 and 3.73 gear. I don't think that gearing is the issue. I put it in 4 low it did the same thing. I am thinking it is right around 2,000 rpm as well. It does not miss or anything just won't rev at all. It sounds like traction control or some thing is kicking in? I live in Saint George, UT 1.5hrs north of Vegas. I doubt altitude is the issue.

I once got stuck in the mud with t-case in 4 hi and the front tires didnt spin. I switched to 4 lo and the tires spun. These trucks dont have traction control. My guess is you need a some type of locker.

Very interesting, I've never had this issue with mine nor heard of it happening. It's crazy that you couldn't not get it to go past 2000 RPM's in reverse, something sounds wrong there. As far as lockers they are only available for the rear no one makes one for the GM 1500 IFS....

i still think its just loading up. try going forward alittle bit and then back if it happens. it actually now that i think about has happened to me in the snow out here too when i have been trying to have fun in the mountains when i definatly shouldnt have haha

I was kind of thinking loading up to but the question to that is why only in reverse?
