Wanted Z06 Cam (2002+)

I'm looking to purchase a Z06 cam, prefer low miles, must be from a 2002 or newer Z06.

FYI... the '01 is a lil better truck cam.

Tighter LSA, less exhaust duration, std base circle allow 7.4" rods too...

I would agree, I have the 02 cam in my LS1 and it makes good HP but it does it at a high RPM. I used the stock push rods with my 02 cam with no problems.

What are the differences in the cams as far as the usefull rpm range? I had the '02 cam put in my truck a week or so ago and love the power between 2200 and the rev limiter, but if I'm below 2k on the tach I have to kick it down a gear to get it rolling.

Here's an 02 cam on ebay Ebay Cam

'01 = 204/211 116LSA
'02 = 204/218 117.5LSA

Lift is a tad more on the '02+ but I can't tell you exactly. Also the '02+ has the smaller base circle so it needs the slightly longer rods too.

Hmmmm. I have the '02 in my truck with the stock pushrods and all seems to be working well. I hope these don't sound like stupid questions, but I just don't know enough to know.

What difference would the shorter rods make? Are my valves not closing all they way? My mileage did drop from around 15 to around 12mpg. I've been thinking I need a tune to fix that. :sad:

Don't you mean you need longer push rods? Smaller base circle and shorter rods would be a real no-no unless you like the sound of a solid lifter cam.

That makes sense to me?

Yes, you're correct. They need to be ~.050 longer. :whack:

Would that be why I get some valve train noise? It only occurs after the engine is really warm. I've been trying to decide if it's valve train or detonation, since it only occurs when the engine is really warm. :whack:

I thought vavle noise would be more prevalent when the engine is cold.
