Wierd noise from the rear...

wierd noise from the rear...

Put a lot of miles on the truck yesterday pulling the boat. I noticed today a wierd sound coming from the back end.

It seems to be making a chit, chit, chit noise as I accelerate(I hope I dont get banned for this). As soon as I get off the gas it stops. It only makes the sound once I get up to 15. And as I gain rpms it gets faster.

I put my truck on stands today though and it wouldnt make the noise, so I assume it has to be under load.

What would ya'll start looking at?

Sounds like possibly dry ujoints.

I dont remember seeing a grease fitting the last time I was under there...
How do I grease it?

I do remember thoughthat the driveshaft had a lot of slack in it.

No grease fittings. Got to replace.

If it's the stock u-joints, you might have to heat them up a lil bit before removing. GM used some kind of glue/plastic to hold caps in.

Its not going to hurt it to drive on it a few days will it? Im not in a great place to work on my truck...:ugh2:

It might be ok. I drove on mine for probably two days before i had the chance to change it. Be careful though dude, you don't wanna be buyin a new driveshaft.

No, it not like that. Not near as loud and it only does it when I am accelerating.


On a side note I drove around the block once and it was still doing it. Put it back on stands to try and pinpoint it, and nothing. Took it back off the stands and now its not doing it near as much.

I am going to try and have my dad drive it wround the block while I am sitting in the bed to try and pinpoint it better...

When the suspension angle changes and the load is removed on jackstands it's likely the joints won't make noise.
