I picked up a newer 5.3 the other day with 706 heads. I'm planning on using a Tr220 cam. What would be a good amount to mill the heads to?
also how else can i tell to use what length pushrods?
thanks

you dont really need to mill them at all, the valves need to be upgraded to the 2.00'' valves at minimum. the 706 heads come with 1.89'' valves from the factory and the flow numbers suffer as a result.
yiou either calculate for the change in length by subtracting the the new head gasket compressed thickness and amount shaved from the head from the original equipment specs or use a pushrod length checking tool. when being used on ls1s most go to 62 or 59 cc on the 5.3 heads.
i jus wanted to get them milled so it'll pick up compression. i'm gonna be pickin up 8.1 injectors this week.
I would go .030 with a .040 gasket.
wats the thickness on the stock gm gaskets?
Stock gasket I believe are .055 if I remember correctly. The main reason for the thinner gasket is to decrease squelch.
i think thats right too. iwas thinking .055 but wasn't 100%
i like cometic mls head gaskets. they are hard to beat. Thunder Racing - Cometic Gaskets
just choose the bore diameter that works for your motor, but the 5.3 for higher comp. i would go with 119-H1294045S .
