Well today I just picked up a 4l80e from my buddy for $100 and it has the gm goodwrench sticker on the top which tells me it has been rebuilt, I got this for my 06 cc turbo 5.3. But what I was wondering, is this transmission is for the older vortecs without the top bolt hole so why doesn't the 5.3 have the hole tapped under the passenger head or can I tapp it and have any of you guys rebuilt these trans at home I am thinking swapping out the first two gears for the lower tci ones!
Yes, you can tap that hole, just don't go too deep. I've built two of them at home. I had to build some tools to work with the trans. The transmissions were very easy to build. Buy a manual and video if you can find one.
So you said don't go too deep how deep are we taking about and are all 4l80e connectors and electronics the same, so basically if it doesn't get tapped I will only be running 5 bolts.
no deeper than the flange on the engine. Yeah, all 80e connectors are the same and are wired the same though some don't have two speed sensors.
The one that I have has one but the other one has a dummy plug in it I think it's because it's fwd trans and I wonder why gm didn't drill that hole I also noticed that the aluminum engines don't even have that casting for that hole.
I'm thinking tomorrow I will sand blast the case.Quote:
