'00 ABS problem

Wondering if anyone has experienced this problem with ABS..

My 2000 Silverado xcab 4x4's ABS engages whenever I'm slowing to a stop (i.e. 10 -> 0). This happens at every stop, regardless of surface conditions. If I'm more aggressive on the stop, the ABS does not engage. I have 285 MTs on the truck but this problem started well after changing from OEM 265 tires. The only off-roading I've ever done was my muddy semi-gravel driveway a few times (got bad enough for MTs though)..

Damaged ABS sensor? Dirty sensor? Something more serious?

Anyone have an idea where I can find instructions on testing an ABS sensor (I assume this can be done w/ a multimeter?) I've yet to get to a bookstore for a Chiltons e.t.c.

I'm 99.9% confident a misbehaving front wheel sensor is the culprit. And not an ABS pump (whew!) I'll post the resolution as my search of this site didn't yield anything. Now I hope both front sensors are identical as it'd save me a bit of upfront diagnostic work.

Need a wheel sensor and a 4wd switch. What sponsors of this site sell OEM parts?
Is there a list of sponsors somewhere?? (I looked briefly, didn't find)

Haynes has manuals out for the 99+ trucks now! I'm going to get one shortly.

Is there an ABS exciter wheel up front? Maybe it's soiled/bent?

ABS modules here are about $150 used FYI

My truck done the exact same thing one day when we were doing some tuning.....just as you descibed......all we done was calibrate the tire size into the program cause we had forgotten that and it was then fine. The difference in your tires size makes the truck think it is scooting the tires slightly.

hope this helps you before you spend money you dont need to spend.

you can do this with software or maybe take it to gm and they can do it
