well im not gonna do the LT-1 conversionto my truck but im gonna keep the cam out the LT-1 to put it in the 5.7 vortec motor. Is there a fairly cheep stroker kit for my truck? and also when i put that cam in my truck do i need to put the lifters push rods and rockers in there. also will my stock valves work? sorry so many questions.....
I was going to do a 6.0 liter swap until I talked to the county emission station and they told me it would be illegal to swap it in there. I am just about ready to drop my ht383 in hopefully in the next week or two. I'll tell you how it goes and see if it was worth it.

Get the 383 stroker kit. Try and find one from Eagle
You obviously talked to someone that doesn't know the state's requirements. All states that have emissions regulations follow the CARB rules and in those rules it states you can swap any engine into a vehicle as long as it is the same year or newer vehicle and you maintain your current emissions equipment or improve the emissions control by transferring the newer emissions equipment to the older vehicle. The only engines you are not allowed to swap in would be an engine from something like industrial such as from a dump truck, farm equipment or from a boat. Even boat engines are required to meet more strict regulations now. I'm sure they've revised the rules on the boat engines.
+1 a newer engine can be put in an older vehicle as long as all the emissions stuff is used.
they told me I would have to come to the county emission place every year to have it tested and that I could put a 5.7 ls1 in but not a 5.3 or 6.0 because the 97 never had those. I know strange but thats what they told me. Luckily I had a stroker lt1 I had blown up so I just rebuilt the vortec using the 383 crank and rods out of that motor. Should run really well with very little expense.

It's "more illegal" to put a truck engine in a car or vice versa than to put a newer engine in an older vehicle.
