Damm Thats Badass, where Ya Get Them Spacers?
full throttle suspenion. pricey but nice.
Did you do a write up on the swap? If you did it could be a sticky. And i could benefit from it very much.
well maybe a couple fact will just work for now. i'm no exspert and anyone is free to join in. so here is the skinney on a 14 bolt swap.
if you choose to match a 6 lug pattern front to back and have a 14 bolt you will need at 14 bolt semi floater that has 6 lug axles. they come in 3/4 tons and a few half tons of the 89 to early 90s pick ups. most common from what i understand in the "heavy half" work trucks. if you have a 4x4 you will want it out of a 4x4 truck for the length to match front to back as well. if you find a 2wd your track width will look all off and you will have to use spacers to correct this problem.
the second thing is that the OBS spring perch width is 47 center to center and the NBS is 49. SO you will need new perches if installing this in a NBS truck. this is a direct bolt in from one OBS to the next if that is the case.
another is the wonderful disc brake question. if you have drums id say jus keep the drums if you want to up grade to disc several company makes the brackets that most commonly use a 3/4 ton 1987 (i believe) front caliper. if you wish to keep your e brake working they have kits that use a cadillac caliper but most say you have to adjust the park brake every week and end up jus switching to the "non e brake" set up in the end.
the ring gear on the 14 bolt semi floater is 9.5. the full floater is 10.5 and if you have any knowledge in rear ends you should be able to tell a full floater and a semi floater apart easily. jus by shear gerth. lol.
this swap is very easy to do i jus had no welding skills to move perches or the knowledge on gearing. so i had A-T Fan in plano texas do it for me.
ah! and back to the brakes. if your truck has factory 10 bolt discs and you wish to keep them. it is possible to do it. either fab up your own spacers OR fork over the money to full throttle suspension for thier nice billet spacers like i did!
companys to contact:
all terrain fabrication in plano texas
full throttle suspension
rough stuff specialites
this is a endless supply of after market, for the most part, for this swap and axle. take you time. don't rush. think it through. no one has ever bought and finished it all in a month as far as i know. collecting the parts and research is half the fun!
Call me bud! Lets get your speedo done.I could get you to meet me at Nathans and drop my truck off....then we can tweak your tune on the way back to my house!
Nice work!
Truck looks awesome as well.
Thanks, i like the painted diff cover also.
Looking good there....
Did those spacers increase the rear track width, or does it measure the same as the front?
looks to be a supurb job!!! nice looking truck also from what i can see of it!!!
nice write up also
