timing mark

i am doing a cam swap on my truck but i can not find the timing marks. can you help me so i now what i am looking for.

There will be two dimples or dots one on the cam gear and one on the crank gear, line them up perfect or ask Dale what happens. Or you could degree the cam but that means pulling a head but is more accurate.

Should just be one recessed dot near the teeth of each gear? Just line the dots up so they are closest together before you pull it.

i have done a few cam swap but i am looking for dots on the cam and crank gear.on the cam gear there is a enlongated half moon and i am not seeing anything on the crank gear.

That's very interesting. Has anyone else worked on it before? Maybe someone messed with it? At the very worst get a new set?

Its quite easy... Find the larger recessed circle (dimple) on the crank gear. Its larger and easier to find. Once you have that in sight (and the crank pulley is off with the old crank bolt back in), turn the crank clockwise until the large dot on the crank gear is almost at the 12 o'clock position. You might need a small flash light to see the small dot on the cam gear, but look on the teeth and see if you can locate it. If the dot on the crank gear is at 12 o'clock, then the small dot on the cam gear should be at 6 o'clock.

Once you have them EXACTLY lined up, you can take the cam retainer plate and cam gear bolts off. If you go to far, you have to turn the crank over 360 degrees CLOCKWISE until you get back to lining them up again. It may take several times to get the timing dots lined up, so don't bash your head in if you can't get it the first few times.
