stroker??

hi guys, I have a couple of questions..
let's say, if I want to built a 408ci engine, is there a difference between a Lq4 or a Lq9?? cause if I want to buy a 6.0, the price between one and the other is way higher..(Lq9) anyways, would I have to get a diff set of heads or can I get a port job on 317's?? will L92 work well in that setup? I would love to have the pro flow intake from edelbrock on top of that engine.. I don't know it it would work.. also, what would be the best C.R if I want N/A??

only difference is that the lq9 has flat top pistons which would be replaced anyways...

to build a 408 either 6.0 would work fine, the difference is the pistons. so in your case go with the LQ4. the 317's would be fine, and the L92's would work well too, either or... the higher the better, to a point. around 10-11:1 would be good for NA

LQ4 block will be fine, you could build either 1. If you want the pro flo intake you will have to use 317's or 243 heads, ported and polished prefered, they don't make that intake for the rectangular L92 heads yet. If you want to stay N/A shoot for 11 to 1 or 11.5 to 1 CR with a big cam (intake 230's) and minimum 3600 stall.

from what i've read I need the kit E.. please correct me if I am wrong.. so it says that for the compression you are talking about, I need 66 or 72cc heads.. right?? I already have my current heads (862's)worked out, I need to double check how much flow do they have.. they might be small for a 408.. what do you guys think of that kit? and what would be a GREAT cam for that engine?

unless you're buying the engine to get accessories, heads, covers or whatever, if you're really just looking for the shortblock I would suggest you buy a 1st quality new bare block rather than a second grade that many retailers sell. SDPARTS.com or CrateEngineDepot.com sell 1st quality blocks. You never know what is wrong with the 2nds. A good seasoned block is nice to start with. High miles should not be a deterrant on a used engine you're going to be sending out for rebuild, just be sure to get a gaurantee that the block will be rebuildable.

hey bud, I just checked SDPARTS website and they seem to have a nice 6.0 block!! and IMO i don't think is that expensive.. I will get all of the accesories from my current engine.. they will work right? also, how much does a shop usually charges to bore and stroke a block?? average? anyone with a stroked engine? I'm just trying to make up some numbers..

My machine shop bill was 400 thats bored 30 over block cleand decked
and checked for cracks

$400 sounds like a healthy price. Best thing to do would be to open the Yellow Pages and start calling. Or ask around about reputable machining shops in your area...

i was in wyoming only machine shop for 2 hours and they are the best in the state just sayin
