Cam Question
Hey guys Ive been wondering this for awile .When i installed my cam ,the mechanic i had order it just ordered a cam for an ls1.The cam card just says ls1 applications [comp cam].Is theyre a chance that ive had the wrong cam in my truck all along?my motor is out of a 2007 van and the build date is 08/03/06.shouldnt it have been a gen 3 application?or year specific?I even read that 06 plus is a year specific cam anyway cus im thinking he didnt order a cam for an o6 o7 motor just ls1 application.does it need to be year specific for 06 07 motor?or atleast a gen 3 application .ill see if i can find my camm card. Its been awile so i cant remember seeing a wheel on it or ring.Is theyre a link showing me a pic of the differences?maybe thatll refresh me.Thanks

Part number 54-414-11.just says on the cam card xr269hr-14 . guess i better change my sig ,thats actually from the 4.8 cam.

so i just looked it up on comps site ,I got half an answe .It says gen 3 ,ls1,ls2 ,lls6 350 ci 1997 to present 3 bolt.thats kinda vague to me.I still wanna know if my 06-07 motor works for this cam .Is mine still considered gen 3.?

Really!nothing. Its just aggrevating me cus i cant remember looking at my cam ,for the life of me.

Gen 3 cams are good all the way from 97-present. All Gen3 engines are LS1 based from 4.8-6.0 the only major difference being different bore sizes and strokes. For 07+ truck engines are LS2 based. You need the ls7 cam sprocket to make Gen 3 cams compatible with the Gen 4 engine. That I know of the Gen 4 came into play in 06 with the Corvette LS2 having a 58+2X reluctor wheel, early 05 LS2s were still 24X. As for truck engines I believe 99-07 Classics are still Gen 3s with 24X reluctor wheels, so you should be fine. Sorry kinda lengthy but I hope it helps.

absolutely ,I appreciate some kinda answer.I went out and looked at the stock cam that came out of my motor and all i see at the back is a ring that is about an inch or so up the cam ,with a slash in it about 50 % around it.im assuming thats the reluctor wheel.I dont see anything on it that looks like a wheel.thanks.So whats the deal as far as my motor ,it came out of an o7 van,but the actual build date of the motor is 08 /06 .would that be considered 07 or 06.I guess from what you say thats a big difference.dont they consider a motor or vehicle if its built after the 6th month of the yr the following yr .ya know what im sayin?
-
thats it, it's a ring, not so much a wheel. Wheels don't roll too good when parts are missing, huh. Rings fall off of fingers when there are large gaps, too, so calling it that doesn't make much sense either, does it.
-
no it doesnt make sense ,red.whats your opinion on the year thing?how do i order parts,?06 or 07 ?again im only concerned because of the build date and year of the truck it came out of.build 8th month of 06 but yr of vehicle was 07.just wanna be sure.thanks

It should be a three bolt cam with a reluctor in the rear of the cam. Get the 02-04 camshaft.
