Need help with transmission problem.

I was driving the truck today and it went to shift into 4th and revved to about 4500 and then shifted hard. I slowed down to see if it would do the same thing, it did the same thing except it would not accelerate after it shifted. It was like it was in neutral. I pulled over and it would not move in any forward gear. I put it in reverse, and it moved about 10 feet and jumped out of gear and wouldn't move at all. After I had it towed home, I got underneath it to look at it. I grabbed the driveshaft and was able to turn it about a half of an inch. After I moved it, it seemed to have locked in place (it would not rotate in either direction). Started the truck and had reverse again. So I dropped the pan, no big pieces of metal, just alot of metal glitter. Any ideas? It is a 2001 4.8 RCSB. The fluid was clean and full before this. There were no problems before this, drove and shifted fine. Thanks Chris.

Sounds like you need a trans bud.

Sounds like one I fixed not that long ago, forward sprag clutch let go and a bunch of pieces fell into the input planetary gearset and split the carrier in 3 pieces, what a mess! If that's the case you need a new tranny. (cheapest route)

Sounds like you have revved the engine in Neutral and shifted it into gear a few times to burnout...the result is a clean input shaft instead of geared shaft.

I vote snapped shaft too among other things.

No, I have honestly never done that. But, I am in the process of pulling it out now. I have got everthing unbolted. The only thing that I have left is the torque converter bolts. How do you get to them? Thanks.

pull the starter and you get to them there.

if they have round heads instead of hex heads be careful not to strip the allen portion of the bolt
