PROCHARGER with intercooler or TURBONETICS T78 Turbo with intercooler?
Which would be the best?
turbo
but maybe not quite 78 mm with a 5.3
From what i've learned on the site I say turbo.
assuming its mostly stock thats pretty big, if he already has all the supporting mods and is going for big power it would be fine. but for a DD truck not looking to set the world on fire a smaller turbo with less lag and what not would probably be better, right? somewhere in the 70mm range
Depends on the application, but being that it's for a truck, a turbo would be best.
Your truck is a little heavier than a vette/fbody and your truck requires torque to be quick off the line. The procharger can be quick off the line, but the trucks trans needs a big stall converter because the procharger produces topend power. There goes gas mileage and drivability, in some cases.
A good comparison would be the tvs and turbo.
Both are great kits, so I thought I would mention it.
Turbo is much better for your application!
Your truck can build boost off the line, has great midrange torque and the turbo will pull the redline; it makes power from idle to wot!
The turbo is going to require an intercooler, exhaust, injectors, pump and tuning, oh ya, and a boost gauge and wideband a/f meter.
I think the turbo will be just right on the truck too. We put the T76 on the 5.3L's and they run great, good spool up and the potential to make good power.
Be sure to upgrade your transmission as well.
ill take 2 lol...i wish
The T78 would work perfectly fine. The 5.3 isn't stock. Fully bolt ons, cam, and exhaust.
as far as I know the procharger is a better option, but I am not the expert. from what I have read the charger will make instant power, while the turbo needs to spool up. someone correct me if I'm wrong, maybe thats only roots type superchargers.
