Help me out guys.

well as yall know i stripped the cam retainer bolts in the block last week.well i got those out,which were the flush torx style.what a pain to get them out.
anyways i ordered the new cam retainer with older style bolts from the nbs.

well heres a pic of the original torx style on top,and the older style bolt on bottom of retainer on the pic.

my problem is it looks like the cam sprocket is going to hit these older style bolts as u can see the head sticks out,compared to the flushed torx style.

i thought some of u guys have done this conversion:confused:

sux cause i only have one good torx bolt left lol

You should be able to get some allen head bolts that will flush mount. Try fastenal some places are grimme and make you buy whole bag some will sell you one ore two bolts.

yea i need to get it back up and going,i ordered 4 new torx style from local dealer ,but wont get here till next week:(
i really dont want to put those torx style either.
i tried oreillys and nothing,ill give them local hardware stores a try.

i just thought these bolts would work since there used on 99-06 engines.guess the sprocket is different or plate??cause i got the same plate.

I see you replaced the bolts but not the cover. Why?

Yes, you can get some allen head style bolts to replace the torx style.

try a hardware store they should be able to order them and have them in a few days.

yea bro thats the new cover,the part number i think i got from you,but it looks like the same cover i had.thats what i noticed when i opened it up.

wrong plate.... they will be straight holes... no recess.... they wont hit the timing gear... or at least mine had plenty of room,,,, but i used the arp bolts too...my plate like that broke... found the pieces of metal in the pan.....scared the poo out of me.... but i just used the plate off my old 4.8....

damm so its the wrong plate:( its got the right part# on the sealed bag it came in to from gm part#12589016

ok got that out of the way.

one more question,could i go ahead and torque down the rockers to put the upper part back together,till i get the new cam reatainer bolts??or would it be hard to turn the cam for alignment?

dono man... mine came off a 2005 4.8... if that helps... but wrong plate for sure....
