what do you think caused this or is it just catastrofic failure??
-
Thats not a catastrophic failure. Thats just a failure. I'd show you a catastrophic failure but putfile died and took all my pictures with it. To sum it up it took the rear end, rear end cover. Driveshaft. Amazingly it did not take out my transfer case.

ya, lucky it didnt blow... usually will send the pin through the cover and destroy alot of good parts... whats ur plan now, detroit?
-
Is that Slidell TX or OK? Hope it's the former but if the latter then holler.

-
The pin went through the cover? Wow. When I broke 2-3 of mine the pin always came out and destroyed both the carrier and the gear set but never got out of the housing.
Good job! :thumb:

ive had 2 come out the cover just like that...lol

well my plans are tomorrow im going to take it all the way apart and see what all went wrong ...the first sighn was the axle was pushing out and the rottor and it was rubbing on the calliper bracket thing ...i have the eaton posi with 373s and i dont really know what im going to do now because i just had the four link redone with knew coil overs and im hoping that it didnt mess up the axle ..

well this happend two years ago
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...nthecoast1.jpg and i think it may have started all this mess .....it took out one side of my four link, exsaust, hole in the gas tank and some other crap it spit it out the tail shaft of the trans(this was when it was bagged)

How do the rollers on the side bearings look? Usually the hardness comes off in flakes sticking to the magnet. As the bearings wear, they get thinner taking up side bearing preload (the shims have to be forced in slightly to put pressure on the side bearings). When the preload is gone the carrier can move side to side. Who did the previous install? It would be nice to know how much preload was put on the side bearings with shims. I can tell it's been into as the factory puts one large cast iron spacer and one shim per side, service procedure has you put a steel spacer and multiple shims to take up the extra space and add preload. I reuse the cast iron spacers anyway 'cause it's a hassle to stack up a bunch of steels but they are brittle being cast iron and will crack if hammered in improperly.
