LS1 2001 s10
Hello all...............My name is Drew and I am from good ol' Gainesville, FL! (GO GATORS) I have been a avid motorsports enthusiast for about 6 years now and my love of automobiles continues to grow.
A shared fleet with my dad currently includes
1. 1967 SS Camaro (DAD)
355, 456 gears, 700r4 swap
2. 1995 Honda Civic Hatch
Forgerd b16, t3/t4 (15lbs)
3. 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
Completely gutted, 18lbs, 12.4@110, stock everything cept fuel pump
4. 2001 S10 LS
4.3, 4L60e, bone stock 'cept intake
My new goal is a semi-built LS1 with a built trans in my s10.........hence the reason i am here. I
If interested in my fleet pictures of all available at MySpace.com - DREW - 22 - Male - GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - www.myspace.com/mountaindrew01
OK...........feel free to just post links to similar threads if you dont feel like answering. ( I wasnt having much luck with my search)
I understand a LS1 will bolt up to my stock trans.
What (if any) accesories (alt, PW steer, AC) from my 4.3 can be retained during swap?
I also understand the weak link in LS1s are the rod bolts. I was told with rod bolts, agressive cam, and a set of heads 450+ WHP is possible (Reliably)
Is it necessary to forge internals? Stock holds what kind of power?
A basic parts list of what is needed.
Since my truck is 2001 I believe I dont need to purchase software. My local tuner has it and it is basically plug and play.
Do most folks used column shifter or change to a Slap shift (floor) of some sort?
Recommendations of where to look for motor. (besides Ebay)
Already have the trans figured out. Friends with local tranny shop.

Look on Car-part.com it is a database that most salvage yards use. Your trans will need some modifications, they are a very weak link. I know you are all about an Ls1 but i would imagine that a 5.3 would be a little easier on the wallet. Actually Dale, (Cowl327) has a short block for sale. Unless he has already sold it.

for 450 hp you dont need to add anything to the ls1 imo. Its been proven it will hold over before any internal stuff needs to be modified, unless you just feel like doind it. the column shifter will work, or a floor shifter. there are a few good places to buy motors in Tx, but doesnt do you much good. i think the alternator will work, dono about the rest. I ran the 5.3 ps pump and acc. in my s10. but i know all the ls1 stuff is a little diff. welcome to the site.

oh, and i was going to say, the weakest link is the 4l60e, i would work on it more than the motor.:twocents:

I haven't seen any rod bolts break but I've sure been through alot of valve springs with a high lift cam. The tranny is the weak link but I'm still pushing 420 plus rwhp to the stock 4L60E w/3200 stall, cumputer mods to the shift points, force current motor and a little other tweaks here and there to the torque management.

BTW, I can get you a complete motor with transmission, wiring harness, pcm and all of the accessories if you like that's reliable and tested before you buy it out of North Carolina. Let me know what mileage and price range you're looking for and I'll see what's available.
